Anthem Blue Cross has aligned themselves in the California Small Group marketplace with a number of underwriting promotions, consistent rates and an improved portfolio that LISI would like to make you aware of.

Anthem’s Promotions:

Anthem has announced a limited time promotion for groups effective January 1 – March 15, 2017. Groups enrolling during this promotional time may offer dual PPO networks to their employees.  This promotion may be applied alongside the current dual HMO network promotion – meaning your clients can offer 2 HMO and 2 PPO networks!

In addition to this promotion, Anthem has a number of other promotions:

Anthem has extended their DE-9C promotion through June 2017 effective dates. Groups are no longer required to submit a Quarterly State Tax Withholding Report (DE9C)* when they have 6 or more enrolled employees, through Q1 effective dates.

They have also extended their Relaxed Participation promotion through June 2017 effective dates. This promotion has been in place since mid-2016. Groups will need to meet a minimum participation of 30%, with a minimum of 5 enrolled. This guideline does apply to both medical and specialty lines of coverage.

As of June 1, 2016, Anthem will allow clients to offer Dual HMO Networks (up to 2 HMO networks, in any combination). This promotion has been extended through June 2017 effective dates.

Anthem Rate Consistency:

With a rate pass for Q2 2017 rates, Anthem has produced 7 quarters with a total increase of 0.7% on PPO plans and a 10.5% decrease on HMO plans. Anthem has worked hard to bring their rates closer in line with the competition by having their actuaries take deeper looks into their costs, provider discounts, and utilization to provide the best rates available in each area. This will allow you to really push the strength of Anthem as their rich benefits and largest provider network with best discounts will now pair with lower premiums.

Anthem Portfolio Improvements:

In an effort to streamline their dental offerings Anthem has launched a new GA exclusive portfolio called the “GA Metallic Plans.” This simplified portfolio contains 4 plan designs that can be sold either as voluntary or non-voluntary, and with or without orthodontia coverage.  These plan designs were chosen as they are the most sold options in Anthem’s current dental portfolio.  Below you will find a chart of the four new plans, broken down in metallic tiers similar to medical.

These plans will launch for an April 1st effective date, and are available to quote in HealthConnect now. Please note: these will replace the current portfolio of plans offered in HealthConnect.
